I am an artist. My canvas is the page. And sometimes, the screen. I write poetry and prose. Non-fiction and fiction.
I am multi-genre author. My debut is a romance or women's fiction novel. I published a series of poetry books. I have a YA novel that is in the works with supernatural elements. I also have a historical fiction novel about my mother's life as an activist that is waiting to be brought to life.
Writing is freedom.
Skyline
The skyline is beautiful;
A swanky invitation to a city's highlife.
Twinkling lights,
Awe inspiring geometry
Against an inky black sky or picturesque blue
Punctuated by cumulus clouds.
It's trickery is masterful,
An ornate façade
Because the heart of the city
Is where the people dwell, where they
Live,
Breathe,
Love.
The backdrop changes from block to block
Verdant green to trash-strewn concrete.
It's underbelly hidden:
The suffering of the honest and hard-working...
Their reality lies
In the grittiness of the city,
In its overdevelopment
And dirt under the fingernails.
Potholed streets
And buckled sidewalks by the roots of trees
Old enough to know the past and the truth.
The hopes and dreams of those who should've lost faith because of their circumstances,
But shine brightly in their hearts
As the skyline scrapes the horizon
In the distance.
